Soon after Jon and Suzy moved to Ellamar in 1979, Jon bought a 32 foot 1930s vintage wooden double-ender boat.
He named it "Windsinger." He crafted a figure head, a mast and sails, cabin and bunks, installed rigging and made many
structural repairs. He installed a rebuilt diesel engine, It started on the first try. He designed and built an auto-pilot
for the boat. It worked off the magnetic
compass with sprockets and bicycle chain linkages. It was concise, elegant and functioned perfectly to control the helm and
maintain the selected heading.
Jon completed this six inch replica of the Windsinger shortly before he died. Crafted from old piano key ivory rosewood, ebony, copper and aluminum, it is a true-to-scale replica of the original 32 foot boat. It is for sale for a reasonable offer.
