This was the Horizons Alaska magazine cover in June of 1986 with a drawing by Jon Rush depicting George Flemming, a man who lived way out in Prince William Sound at Port Oceanic on Knight Island. He had been born and raised on nearby Flemming Island in the early 1900s. I first met old George when I delivered mail to Port Oceanic in 1977. He lived there with Marla Adkins who owned the place. I flew George into town a year or so later where he remained until his death several months later. It had been more than 50 years since he had last been to town.
