SEAT FARES and SCHEDULED COMMUTER FLIGHTS
Commuter-type twin-engine and single-engine recip and turboprop airplanes fly scheduled runs throughout the state, many of them on a daily basis. These flights can be strictly passenger flights, mail/freight runs or combinations of both. Seat fares rather than charter rates are charged for these flights.
In Southeast Alaska, Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau are primary hubs for scheduled flights to remote Southeast Alaskan communities. Many of them don't operate on a daily basis, so plan accordingly.
In South Central Alaska and points north and west, Anchorage is the primary hub. However, on the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai and Homer are also jumping off points for more remote destinations.
Even though it is part of South Central Alaska, Kodiak Island is a region unto itself. Airtaxi operators in Kodiak can fly you to almost any destination within the Kodiak Archipelago and places on the remote west coast of the Alaska Peninsula across the Shelikov Straights from Kodiak Island. Some of the Kodiak air taxi companies fly scheduled runs to all the villages on the island.
In northern, western and north western Alaska, Fairbanks is the primary hub. Dillinham, Alaska is also a hub for western Alaska and the Bristol Bay area. King Salmon is another hub which services the Bristol Bay area and western Alaska. Bethel is the primary hub for the north western coast and the Yukon/Kuskokwim felta area. Nome, further north along the Bering Sea, is another jumping off point for flights in that area. So far information available here is for southeast Alaska only. There will be more information posted here in the days ahead regarding inexpensive air travel throughout the state.
